It's not quite the same thing, but back when CDs were the main way to store music, you'd have shelves full of CDs. It got complicated fast to find whatever you were looking for, so one thing we'd do would be sticking coloured dots on the edge of the CD case.The unintended side effect was that I started associating bands and then people with colours, like I'd hear a new band and go "yeah that one would be beige, maybe vanilla even".Though CDs haven't been a thing for a while so that quirk kinda disappeared now.
